Many American expats are considering renouncing their citizenship because of the difficulty and expense of managing their U.S. tax obligations while living abroad. About a third of those polled are planning or strongly considering this step, with the number increasing since last year. The main reason is the burden of filing U.S. taxes on worldwide income and reporting foreign financial accounts, which can be complex and time-consuming.
