Mass Student Debt Amnesty: Biden Wipes Out $1.2 Billion for Thousands

Biden administration to forgive $1.2 billion in student debt for over 150,000 borrowers

The Biden administration is forgiving $1.2 billion in student debt for around 153,000 borrowers who enrolled in their SAVE repayment plan.

This plan offers forgiveness after just a decade of payments for those with small balances (originally borrowed $12,000 or less).

Eligible borrowers who have been repaying for at least a decade can expect to receive email notifications about the relief from President Biden.

This move comes after the Supreme Court blocked Biden’s broader student loan forgiveness plan, and brings the total debt canceled by the administration to $138 billion, benefiting almost 3.9 million borrowers.
